WIP Wednesday

I'm making some good progress on my daughters quilt and am fully confident that I will get it finished by the end of the month.

I've ripped out all the puckers.

 And I have trimmed up all the edges so it is ready to be bound!

For those of you visiting and my new followers I made this quilt for my 4 year old daughter as part of a quilt along.

Melissa from Sew Bittersweet Designs and Jenna from Sew Happy Geek came up with this Sew Intertwined pattern.

I was able to sit down for about 90 minutes yesterday and this is what I completed in that time.

I still have 3 corners to finish around the center Dresden and then I will start on the woven blocks.

WIP Wednesday

Good Morning friends,  I hope you all are having a wonderful day. If you are visiting from W.i.P. wednesday at freshly pieced, welcome.

It is a bit chillier here today than it has been upper 30's vs. upper 50-60's.  It is starting to feel more like Christmas weather wise at least, but it is still pretty warm for us at this time of year.

I have been busy doing swap gifts and I have 2 different ones to show you today.  They are not finished yet so they are still works in progress.  One of them has to be sent out no later than tomorrow.   Normally I wouldn't share a full shot picture of the gift, when I don't know if the person/s they are going too even read my blog, but since there are 2 I figure that I can get away with it and they can only stalk to the mail carrier to see which one they get in the end.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day and I hope to finish these off and make it to the post office today.  Next on my list of things to finish up is my Sew Intertwined quilt so someone can have it for Christmas.

WIP Wednesday

I'm linking up with W.i.P Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced this week, no it is nothing new if you a regular reader, but if you are visiting it is a great place to get inspiration or learn tips and tricks from other bloggers.  There is also some beautiful work to be found as well.

Last October, when my husband and I were on vacation I came across a quilt at a shop in Las Vegas called 'Frosted Stars'  I immediately fell in love with the design and the fabric used. Seriously who doesn't fall in love with cute little snowmen?

Well when I ordered fabric 10 months ago to make this quilt I thought to myself that I didn't have enough of the 'scrap yardage' to make it, so it has sat in the closet with the pattern for all this time.  I decided on Monday that I was going to face the 'demon' and if nothing else make the pattern smaller so I could complete the quilt top.   I really want to get this finished for the holiday season.  As I was cutting my strips yesterday, I came to realize that I am short just a very small amount!  I was really excited and pressed all the creases out of the fabric so I could see just what I was missing.  I'm short some sashing and back ground fabric.  I'm sure I can find something at the local quilt shop to fill my void or even order something from the Fat Quarter Shop and still get this finished for the holidays.

I can't wait to get this project done

I also have a few other 'sewing' projects on the list that are going to slow this quilt top down, but I know I can do it.

My daughter who is 4 picked up a roll of purple organza at the fabric store the other day I and instead of telling her no, I said 'mommy can make you a skirt'.  What the heck was I thinking?  I have never sewn organza before...so if you have any tips I would love to hear them.  Since it is only 6" wide and 15 yards long, I am thinking a little tiered, ruffled, skirt for dress up/Halloween.

WIP Wednesday

Yesterday, I was looking for a new toddler dress pattern and came across The Ribbon Retreat Blog and the tutorial for this adorable dress.

fabric color is way off here, the one below is almost spot on.

 I am going to add an apron to this one.

It took me less than 2 hours to sew the original dress.

WIP Wednesday

 

Hi everyone! If your visiting from Lee's WIP Wednesday, Welcome my my corner of the world.

I think I have finally gotten my kids on schedule, In fact I have even gotten a little sewing done.  I haven't finished anything but I have made a few seams.

 I really hate to admit (but I will) that this dress has taken me almost 3 weeks to complete.  Normally a little dress like this I can whip out in 2-3 days.  One day if I have absolutely no interruptions.   The dress still needs hemmed, but I have it pressed up so all I have to do is sit down and sew the hem in.  All the hand stitching of the bodice lining has been stitched down so it nearly complete.

I haven't started the bloomers for it yet.

I hope the next dress doesn't take me so long.

I hope to get the hem in the dress and maybe the bloomers cut out before I take the kids to 'Touch a Truck' at the local rec center.

WIP Wednesday

It's that day of the week again. Time to pull a list of things together that I'm working on.   The secret project that I talked about on Monday is done.  I even got to use it last night.  If you follow me on twitter you got a sneak peek at the finished project yesterday afternoon.  Some of you saw it on facebook, no I don't have the Piecestolove page up on facebook yet, it is more a matter of I lack the time to figure it out, I'm sure it is very easy to do, but today is WIP Wednesday so that is what it is all about.

My daughter is such a girly girl and LOVES to wear dresses.  She even gets involved in picking out the fabric.  By the way, she picked out some of the fabric to finish my secret project yesterday.  I think she has a good eye.

This weeks WIP pile of fabric is going to be some fun little dresses for my daughter, so far I've pre-washed my fabric to cut down on frustration after the garment is washed the first time.

But first I need to go dodge some raindrops and gather up some fun little goodies for the kids Easter baskets.

WIP Work in Progress Wednesday 2/15/2012

I'm linking up with Lee over at Freshly Pieced today.

I have  had this baby quilt pieced for a couple of weeks now, and now that Valentine's day is over with, I'm able to finally finish it up.   I normally spray baste, but I'm out so I grabbed my trusty pins and pinned this one, 6 times to the dang carpet.  I'm glad it's small or that could have been a whole lot worse.

I really hope to finish it up today, but if not, there is always tomorrow.

WIP Work in progress Wednesday 1/4/2012

Well WIP, here we are again... I'm making a list to start the year out so maybe I will be able to keep track of my progress better...so in to particular order.




Quilt-Uber Fest blocks from Oct. of 2011, blocks 7-17.


I need to 'catch up' on my bloggers  BOM,  I'm 2 months behind...


I have a quilt that I started with some Terrain by Kate Spain that I need to just sew my blocks together...


I want to make the 'about town' bag that It's Sew Kiki has designed.  There is a free pattern available at Connecting Threads, and she has a Flickr group for people to post their bags.


I have fabric to make the 'Frosted Stars' quilt By Charlie Scott.


I won a Strawberry Fields jelly roll last month that I am dreaming up something in my head for.


I also have some blues and greens in the closet to make another quilt, that I didn't get to last year.


I have some place mats that I started eons ago, all I have to do is stitch down the binding. (sadly this isn't my oldest wip)

WIP Wednesday 12/21/2011

It's another work in progress Wednesday.  I'm going to pull some of my WIP's out of the closet and see if I can't finish at least 1 of them up.

I was going to forego any sewing today and take the kids to the Wonder Lab, but my oldest is running a fever and hasn't moved from the couch.  I need to check his throat because he said his neck hurts, which to a 5 year old could mean a sore throat.   I hope he is better by Friday because we will be travelling to celebrate Christmas with my family and he would hate to miss playing with his cousins.

I have also been collecting fabric to make the 'Frosted Stars' quilt by Charlie Scott.  I fell in love with this quilt at a shop when I was on vacation back in October and I'm still drooling over the quilt.   I borrowed this picture from Charlies blog Qubee Quilts

I just love the design and colors from the fabric line, which is 'Fruit Cake' by Basic Grey.    I can't wait to get started on this, but it is going to have to wait until after Christmas.

WIP Wednesday-12/7/2011

With the Christmas season in full swing I thought this to be appropriate.  I came across this challenge over  on Karen's blog 'Sew much 2 love' and thought that I would join in.

The rules are simple and there is even a giveaway for linking up.  Just head over to Barbara's blog 'Cat Patches' and get the rules.

I am still working on the memory quilts, I spent most of Monday, doing free motion quilting and finished the quilting on one of them.  Today hopefully I won't have too many interruptions and will be able to get the other one quilted, then I have to dig up some binding fabric, I may have to go to the fabric store and pick something out.  

This is the one that I have finished quilting.  It still needs trimmed up but I figure I will do my trimming all at once instead of clearing space to do it twice.  

I haven't done much on the hexi's this week, I'm letting my dvr fill up some and will sit and hand sew until my heart is content while my son is home from school on Christmas break.    

WIP Wednesday 11-16-2011

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I'm back again for another round of fabulous fun, but first I want everyone to check out the Quilting for Kids finish by Sarah at So Sarah Sews.   She has one of two quilts finished and it turned out amazing! I made a few blocks for Sarah's project a few months ago.  She is going to be asking for more blocks soon and I can't wait.  I have a piece of fabric in the colors she is asking for that has me excited already.

The dark purple and pink block that is under the 'Q' and 'f" is mine.

Onto the WIP business. I haven't made a ton of progress since last week, but I did get all my blocks cut and 'stableized' for my memory quilts.  I got lucky that Grandma-in-law had a knee replaced and while in rehab chose to wear scrub tops so I made as many blocks as I could from those nice sturdy non-knit fabrics that were in good shape. I'll show some rejects at the end of my post.   I'm hoping I can made some headway on sewing them together today and get the tops at least done by Friday.

In order to do that, I am allowing the TV and Leapster to babysit my daughter while I sew.  I don't always do this, but today I think she will have a blast. Tomorrow we will go and do something that possibly involves educational hands on learning or we will hit the 'tumble time' at the gymnastics place where they let the kids run, play and jump for an hour leaving them rendered starving so that 'mom' has to stop at the closest chosen fast food joint that the child chooses and let them eat junk before they are forced home and into their bed so they aren't a total crab the rest of the day.

The rejects, I don't know how my mother in-law expected me to use these shirts that were filled with holes.  I'm not a miracle worker...

The puckered spot below is a hole that has been closed up with safety pins so it was 'still good'.

 More holes....I don't even think Goodwill would keep these shirts.

WIP Wednesday

Happy Humpday!

This week I have been working on a memory quilt made from some baby/toddler clothes. It has turned out a little more challenging than I had planned on, but I'm getting through.

I'm sewing 'frames' around each piece of clothing, so I will have somewhere to quilt without sewing through the clothes.

 And yesterday, I met up with a friend to get some boarder fabric for the memory quilt, I don't know how I forgot that when I was at the store the other day... And we also went to one of the 2 local quilt shops which I had never been to before.  I don't think I would have found it on my own.  But I found this adorable charm pack and just had to have it.  

I'm not sure what pattern I'm going to make with it yet, but it is on top of a pile of fabric and it keeps talking to me, saying, feel how soft I am, sew me, It isn't very nice.

WIP Wednesday

My Dresden Plate quilt is waiting on me to quilt it, but they may not happen for a few weeks.

Yesterday I received 2 boxes of clothes to make a memory quilt for someone so today I will be sorting through all of those and trying to lay out a nice design.


And I'm about half-way through hand quilting the hand-pieced beauty.

The hand quilting is more tedious than I though and I'm pretty sure I've sewn my rows too close together, but live and learn, live and learn.  I have until Christmas to finish it up so I just try to get a row or 2 of stitching in a day or shall I say I put in about 1-2 hours a day on it.  I don't have a quilt rack and I hate the hoop I bought, so I just lay it out on my lap and work on it while watching random DVR'd shows. I love 'Deadliest Catch', I think it is mostly men who like that show, but I'm one of the few women that has to watch it.

WIP Wednesday

Well, it is more of a 'wild Wednesday' in my house as the kids are running in circles at full speed in the living room having a 'race' I think they have been watching too many races with their dad and have watched Cars one too many times.

I started hand quilting this beauty and I have to say, I hate doing the hand quilting.  I'm ready to rip out what I have done so far and run it through the machine...

And I still need to hem the twirly dress.  I put my own spin on it this time.

Well it is a cooler day here today (mid 80's) so I'm going to take the kids out before this morning to ensure I get a sanity break they take a nap this afternoon.

To my mug rug swap partner, I have yours done, I'm just waiting on hubby to get paid so I can hit the post office.
