WIP Wednesday, 9/28/2011

I finished up my BOM,  I think I'm going to make a few more to increase the size of the finished quilt.

My Hexi collection has also grown to 389.  I need to print some more hexi's and cut them out, so that is probably going to be my project today.

Blogger's Block of the Month

A month or so ago my local quilt shop had a sidewalk sale/clearance event.  I came home with lots of bargains, one of them being this beautiful 'Botanica Collection' fabric from art gallery fabrics.   The 5 fabrics on the top I have 1 yard each of and the bottom fabric I have 4 yards of. I have been thinking of making another quilt for me with these, but haven't came up with anything yet.

Normally when I buy fabric I have a project in mind, but I couldn't pass up the steal deal I got these for.

One of the blogs I follow is going to be designing a block for the bloggers block of the month. The block of the month is meant to be a scrappy thing, but I'm going to 'break the rules'

Which is ultimately hosted by Canton Village Quilt Works. I figure what better way to use my fabric that I have no project in mind for other than pretty much a mystery quilt.   They have a flicker group all set up here.

115

I wasn't feeling the greatest yesterday so I just camped out with the munchkin and we watched a whole lot of t.v. yesterday.  115 is the number of hexi's I made while watching t.v.  

Here they are in all their glory.

I'm going to have to find a bigger container to keep all of my hexi's in at some point, at least for now they squish up quite well in their little stacks.

According to the chart over at Texas Freckles, I will need 1,173 Hexi's for a throw sized quilt, I'm currently at 197, I think I have a few more to make.

dress finish

Well I finished the dress yesterday.  I think it turned out darling.

My little model even cooperated for the most part.  

I think I am going to put some elastic around the waist of the dress at some point because it is HUGE, but for now It works well.  I did end up making bias tape for the sleeves from the skirt fabric, I think it makes a great finishing touch as well.  

My little darling will be quite toasty in her dress since is it all corduroy.

WIP Wednesday 9.21.11

I have a list of things that I have been working on and all are in various states of completedness right now.

My Terrain project, still looks like this, except it is all stacked up in a pile on the table there now.
















I've been working on my hexi's I think I have just over 100 now.  I have about 3 hours of shows recorded on the dvr so I will be whipping up several more of those later.

And yesterday I started a fall dress for my daughter.  I have about half the bodice done, but I got the zipper in and am quite proud of that accomplishment.

I'm using McCall's pattern M5740 for the dress and it called for single fold bias tape around the neck and the sleeves instead of having facings or a lining.  Well, I didn't have any bias tape and my choices to have made my own were slim, so I just lined the bodice with a scrap out of my scrap bin.  So much easier in my opinion and no burnt fingers or trip to the fabric store to get any.

I think I might just be getting the hang of zippers after all these years.

Hopefully I will get the dress finished up today.

Wow, it's Monday again?

I have to admit, I sort of enjoy Monday's now that my son is in school and it is just me and the girl.  Right now she is happily playing with some of my old Mickey Mouse happy meal toys from eons ago while watching Mickey Mouse Club house.  I love listening to her play and be imaginative.

I have to admit,  I haven't spent much time at the sewing machine since I made a cover for it. I really need to pick through my stash and make one for my serger now.

 I have been making some Hexi's, my husband thinks I'm nuts, but that is ok, he is stuck with me :o)

 I love the shoe print.  I did the best I could to get as many as I could to show. I only had 1 2.5" square of that print.

In fact out of my box of squares, I really don't have too many that repeat.  I think I have about 60 some of these little boogers done (a lot more than what is in the picture).  I work on them mostly while watching tv.  I at least feel like I'm being productive instead of being lazy, but really it is a little of both.

We went to another state park on Saturday, that seems to be our weekend entertainment lately.   This time we went to Indiana's first state park, McCormick's Creek.  It has some caves and sink holes but those are currently closed do to some White Noise Syndrome that is killing the bats that live in the caves.  Regardless we had a beautiful hike and along the trail we walked was a huge hollow tree.  I had the kids sit inside for a picture, and yes they thought I was crazy as well, but the pictures turned out great.

Thursday randomness

Hey everyone, I have something big in the works for tomorrow.  But right now I have to 'deal with life' and do laundry and get my carpets shampooed.

Shampooing carpets is one of my least favorite jobs.  I've learned my lesson to never buy the Resolve carpet cleaner ever again. It is horrible. My carpets aren't that dirty but it isn't even getting up the dirt that is in them.  I have gone over the same section almost 3 times now and you can't even tell where I've gone over it.   I guess I will be going to the store later and finding something better to accomplish the task.

Yesterday I proved to myself that if the stay at home mom gig doesn't pan out that I can try out to be a 'handy-lady' instead of a handyman.  We have a rental property and yesterday I replaced the garbage disposal while hubby was at work.  I think he is glad to have a wife willing to drive up and take care of any problems while he is at work so we still have the weekends to do what we want and our tenants have their weekends as well.  Now if they would get the weeds out of the landscaping,  It looked so bad I wanted to cry.

Here are some pictures of what it looked like when we lived there.  I didn't take any pictures yesterday but you couldn't even tell there were any flowers around the house. These are just a few and we (my hubby and I) are by no means master gardeners, most everything was planted when we bought the house and I spent days every spring dividing and trans-planting  over populated areas.

Just another Manic Monday

I haven't been at the sewing machine much the past few days. I have plenty to be working on. Maybe that is my problem, project overload and the fact that I'm stuck... I have no clue what order to put my blocks in to finish the quilt top I'm working on, for the most part I have just been making it up as I go, so that is probably feeding my defeated feeling right now.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  For us it was a long holiday weekend.  We spent yesterday at one of the nearby state parks and I don't even want to know how many miles we walked but I'm paying for it today.

Friday fun

I've been working on some commissioned applique the past couple of days.  While I'm not very good at it. I'm doing my best and I sent my friend a picture of one of the 2 shirts yesterday and she was pleased.

It is far from perfect, but doesn't look terrible, and with all of those curves and small spaces I have to call it success.  My son thinks it looks like a logo that is on one of his toy cars.

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.  I don't think we have decided what we are going to do this weekend yet, but have discussed several options, all of which include the hour drive to Indianapolis, there is NHRA practice/qualifying tonight and tomorrow, tomorrow is also college football at Lucas Oil stadium.  We aren't fans of either team but hubby wants to see football there and since we can't afford tickets and a sitter for us to go to a Colt's game we have to look into other options.
