Mini quilt

I bought a kit for a mini-quilt at the sidewalk sale one my my local quilt shops was having a few months ago. Yesterday, since the camera was charging, I decided to make up one of the kits. I didn't finish, I kept getting interrupted with the little things, like swapping the laundry, fixing lunch, washing dishes, playing games with my 3 year old and a quick trip to the grocery for a jar of spaghetti sauce and some garlic toast for dinner.

It is quite wonky and that part is bugging me, I haven't decided if I am going to take it apart and try again or just leave it as is.  

It is another cold rainy day here with a chance of snow, so I hope everyone is staying warm and dry.

My favorite Thanksgiving memory is my first Thanksgiving as a mom. After we were all done eating, my dad "watched" the baby so we could clean up. After we were done we found my dad passed with my daughter passed out on top of his chest. The epitome of turkey coma! Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for the giveaway!

I truly hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.   We did some traveling.  It was nice to see my parents and hubby's Grandparents, but it is nicer to be home again.   I worked on sewing hexi's in the car between delivering empty threats to the kids if they didn't stop fighting over things.

Since I don't have any pictures of my hexi flowers that I have done I will leave you with this adorable hexi bag made by Thana N. that I found on Picasa.

Almost Tutorial Tuesday.

I was going to get a tutorial up for the cute snowman pillow today, but (there is always a but right?) I didn't take enough pictures along the way.  So until I am able to get some more of the white fabric it is going to have to wait.

Muddy Monday

I hope everyone had a great weekend, it did nothing but rain at my house most of the day Saturday and  yesterday, and with the ground already very saturated from previous rains last week the ground is very squishy.  Today is a good sewing day since it is very overcast and kind of drizzly out.

I did spend some time in my sewing room over the weekend. Making a couple of very cute seasonal pillows.  
They are my 2 favorite men right now. :o)

I have a love for snowmen.  When I was dating my now husband, he knew I had a lot of snowmen but I wasn't fond of Christmas, mainly because it has become so commercialized over the years.  He didn't realize until we about to get married and were moving all my stuff into our new house just how many snowmen I had.  I had about 12 of the copy paper boxes just full of assorted snowmen.  He likes to tease me about my collection of which I am only able to put about 1/2 of out because we don't have the room/table space that I once had and with 2 kids, some things are just too fragile to put out.

I am going to be keeping one of the cuties, if I don't happy to go to the fabric store and get some more of the white fabric to make another one... The other one is going to be my 'Dirty Santa' gift at the ladies church Christmas party.  

WIFF (What I Finished Friday)

I think I have finally gotten back in my groove this week.   I sat down on Wednesday and cranked out the two memory quilt tops.

I want to put borders on them, but the most dreaded part of the process is finished.    Sorry for the crappy indoor pictures, it has been very windy here this week and I didn't have a good place to hang or lay them out without them blowing through the neighborhood.

I also made two cute toddler purses for a friend.

Aren't the cute?  She wanted something with 'texture' so she sent me corduroy to make the from.   I think her twin girls will just have a blast with them.

WIP Wednesday 11-16-2011

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I'm back again for another round of fabulous fun, but first I want everyone to check out the Quilting for Kids finish by Sarah at So Sarah Sews.   She has one of two quilts finished and it turned out amazing! I made a few blocks for Sarah's project a few months ago.  She is going to be asking for more blocks soon and I can't wait.  I have a piece of fabric in the colors she is asking for that has me excited already.

The dark purple and pink block that is under the 'Q' and 'f" is mine.

Onto the WIP business. I haven't made a ton of progress since last week, but I did get all my blocks cut and 'stableized' for my memory quilts.  I got lucky that Grandma-in-law had a knee replaced and while in rehab chose to wear scrub tops so I made as many blocks as I could from those nice sturdy non-knit fabrics that were in good shape. I'll show some rejects at the end of my post.   I'm hoping I can made some headway on sewing them together today and get the tops at least done by Friday.

In order to do that, I am allowing the TV and Leapster to babysit my daughter while I sew.  I don't always do this, but today I think she will have a blast. Tomorrow we will go and do something that possibly involves educational hands on learning or we will hit the 'tumble time' at the gymnastics place where they let the kids run, play and jump for an hour leaving them rendered starving so that 'mom' has to stop at the closest chosen fast food joint that the child chooses and let them eat junk before they are forced home and into their bed so they aren't a total crab the rest of the day.

The rejects, I don't know how my mother in-law expected me to use these shirts that were filled with holes.  I'm not a miracle worker...

The puckered spot below is a hole that has been closed up with safety pins so it was 'still good'.

 More holes....I don't even think Goodwill would keep these shirts.

Hexi's make me happy :o)

A mess of hexi's

 I had to get down on their level for a picture, they were pretty piled up.

Last week I finished up my 1173+ hexi's and I did start a few 'flowers yesterday while watching football with the hubby.  I wasn't really into the game, but I did catch a few plays/calls before the official said what it was.








I really thought I could get away with just tossing my hexi's from the floor into a shopping bag...well my OCD took over and I couldn't stand it.

They had to be straightened up. So I pulled out a plastic shoe box and we no longer have chaos.

I will now be spending the next several years piecing all of these together in total randomness.

Happy Veteran's Day!

I have several family members who have served in the different branches of the armed services.  My dad served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.  One of my brother in law's and an Uncle served in Vietnam.  My Grandfather on dad's side served in WWII.  I have numerous cousins and friends who have also served.    I just want to send a huge heartfelt Thank You to each and every one of them living or deceased for their service. 

I do have a good excuse for getting today's post up late though, well I think it is a good excuse...The town where I live has a small quilt show going on this weekend, so I met up with a friend this morning and we dug through kiddy pools filled with fabric scraps stuffing quart sized zip-loc bags for $0.50 per bag.    Browsed through the local vendors, and looked at some quilts made by local folks.   

I took a few pictures of some of the quilts, there are some I didn't take a picture of that now I wish I had.  

I really liked loved this quilt.  It uses hexagons but not in a traditional way.  Oh, and see all the quilting?  it was hand quilted.  

Maybe one day I will have something I feel is worthy of hanging up at the quilt show.    Have a great weekend everyone.

NOOOOOO!!!!!

I am really praying there is a glitch in Blogger, because it says I'm not following any blogs.  If it isn't a glitch and my children have touched the computer they know they are not supposed to touch they are going to be in deep trouble.

Other than that, I did get some of my sewing area cleaned up, and got half of the October BOM sewn.  Maybe today I will get that finished.

WIP Wednesday 11-9-2011

Where do I begin....

Hexi's,  I only have 26 left to make!  Then I get the fun job of piecing them together.  I have learned that I can no longer sit and watch tv without having something in my hands.  When this project is done, I guess I'm really going to have to work on learning to knit and crochet, both something I want to learn to do.

 Who knew close to 1100 1" hexi's would fit in 4 little rubbermaid containers?

I only have the first one done.  The second one was posted here, while I was on vacation last month.   I haven't even read the post for it yet, so sad....maybe I will do block #2 today so I don't feel too behind.

Quilt Uber Fest

I have 5 of the 16 blocks done... need to get busy on those too,  If you want to do them, you can find the link to all the different blocks here.  I need to get busy...

Terrain quilt,  my blocks are still waiting to be pieced into a top...I did get some Terrain fat quarters while on vacation so I intend on adding them to my mix.  I want to use some as binding though so I'm not sure how much will get mixed in.

2 Memory T-shirt quilts, I currently have no desire to even continue this project, even though I have already cut into some of the clothes.   I must suck it up and get it done.  Me and my darn big ideas...

Dresden Plate (crib sized quilt) STILL needs quilted, but it isn't taking up much space all folded up.

And I SOOOO need to organize and clean my sewing area.

Hubby decided to get something out of the closet last night and well, he made a bigger mess of my mess.

So along with a lot of WIP's I have some cleaning and organizing to get done as well. I see another WIP hanging in the closet, see the white bag with the blue sticking out of the top? It is hanging up...Those are place mats I started in college (Christmas 1997) 14 years ago YIKES!

Okay, I better go get to work on something, looking at the time, it is going to be lunch for the 3 year old.

All 'Tie'd up Tuesday

For anyone thinking this is some sort of kinky post, trust me, it isn't and you will be greatly disappointed.

A friend of mine commissioned me to make a neck tie for her son.   The Purl Bee Has a great tutorial and free pattern on how to make a childs tie.  I have tried the pattern from Ottobre design and it was horrible.  Maybe it was just me, but my finished tie didn't even fit a 2 year old and the pattern says for ages 4-7.   I'm thrilled with how it turned out.

I know I said A tie, but I had to make a practice one just so I knew if I like the pattern or not, so from the scrap bin came the red satin remnant.

Happy with how it came together in just a matter of less than an hour.  I ventured onto the 'real deal'.

This one turned out great except for the back end part and well it isn't so perfect, but it will be ok because no one will see it...well except all my bloggy readers and the person it is going to of course.

After watching countless you tube videos, I have learned that if I had to tie a tie to save my life, I would end up dead.   I guess I should practice some more.  I sure hope my friend knows how to tie one...

no picture friday

Happy Friday everyone!

I'm on the search for something to feed my inspiration and get me back at my sewing machine a bit more.  I want to know how you find your inspiration?

I think I'm going to drag the rotten, spawn of Satan sweet loving child who stays at home with me all day and puts up with all my sewing adventures to the fabric store.   I hope to at least find some inspiration while I'm there, even if I don't come home with any fabric. I honestly have enough of that for my own good.  I am on a small quest though, a friend has asked me to make a neck tie for her son for when he has his 6 months pictures done next month.  How can I say 'NO' to something for a cute squishy little boy?    Her only request was stripes or paisley's I think I can oblige and keep it on the non-Christmas-y side of things as well.  Although, (I hope my friend doesn't stalk my blog) I'm going to send a bright red tie as well and maybe put some white fluffy furry stuff on it like a Santa hat or snow man applique.

Now that Halloween is over, it is time to really dive into so projects.  

This is my stocking for Purple Panda Quilts 'Stockings for Kids' Lyanna, works with foster children and she thought it would be a wonderful surprise for the children to have their own stocking that they can take with them no matter where they go.   I think it is a wonderful gesture, thank you Lyanna for your kind heart and allowing others to help with the need.

I promised some Halloween pictures for today so here they are.  My 2 doggies.  I truly think Halloween was a success with my children.

Before heading out.

 We went out trick or treating for about an hour last night and came home with a plastic grocery bag full of candy.

It doesn't look like much, but there is a good 5 pounds there.
