Warm Monday Wishes

It was a toasty 16 degrees this morning when I put my son on the bus.  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  Mine was productive, but it wasn't all that wonderful.  My sweet little demon daughter woke up with a fever on Friday, and once it hit nearly 103 degrees, which was also surpassed, we headed off to the doctor, I didn't want to mess around with a fever over the weekend and land at an urgent care or the emergency room.  After an hour in the doctors office it was determined she had the flu, no strep, no ear infection.  I'm not sure which is the worst though, on the bright side I was able to finish her quilt.

The finished size on the quilt is 71" x 74".  I hid the extra 3 inches of the length in the top and bottom border.

Friday's progress

Happy Friday everyone!  I haven't been sewing much the past few days, but I did manage to rip out most of the quilting to release the puckers on the back of my daughters quilt.   I now have it pinned and ready to re-quilt those areas.

While ripping out free motion quilting is a pain in the rump, I would rather do that than have a tooth drilled at the dentist.  No I don't have any teeth that are in need of drilling due to decay or lost fillings, but the dentist is concerned about one of my fillings and well my thought on that is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.  I have managed to put it off for 2 years now :-) and yes I do get my teeth cleaned every 6 months like I should.

A lovely year of finishes

Yesterday I posted almost all of my 2012 finishes.  Today (ok, yesterday) I joined the group "A lovely year of finishes" on flicker that is being hosted by Fiber of all sorts and Sew BitterSweet Designs.

The goal is One month, one project, one finish for 12-months. 2013 a year of lovely finishes. 

For January, My goal is to finish the Sew Intertwined quilt that I gave to my daughter as a WIP for Christmas.   

Here it is in it's present state.



I need to rip out some of the quilting on the back, I have a HUGE pucker, and then finish the quilting.    I can't wait to show you the quilting on the back it is so cool!    I also need to trim it up, make the binding, and bind it.

For those of you visiting and my new followers I made this quilt for my 4 year old daughter as part of a quilt along.

Melissa from Sew Bittersweet Designs and Jenna from Sew Happy Geek came up with this Sew Intertwined pattern.

I was able to sit down for about 90 minutes yesterday and this is what I completed in that time.

I still have 3 corners to finish around the center Dresden and then I will start on the woven blocks.

WIP Wednesday

Wow! This week is flying by for me.  If you are visiting from Freshly Pieced, welcome, and please take a look around. Yesterday was my first time doing anything sewing related since Thursday last week when I literally threw together a quick purse since I was still carrying my spring purse.

Today, I'm working on finishing up the quilting on my Secret Santa swap gift.  I have had fun making it and have one more decision to make on it before I call it good and ship it off to its new home.

My son wants to be Mario from Mario Bro's. for Halloween, so I figured I would make the overall's portion of his costume.  I have the fabric, all I need to do is find a pattern or a good picture to follow to whip them up.

The Sew Intertwined quilt and my Christmas quilt are still awaiting quilting.

I also need template plastic or something and make my templates for the Circle of hope quilt I hope to get done in time to give my mother for Christmas.  If I don't get it done, then I have to figure out what in the world to get her and I will then keep the Circle of hope quilt for myself.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.  I had to pick up my son from school because he is ill, so I'm guessing I won't get much of anything done today. 

What I Finished Friday

I made mention yesterday that I had finished the top for the Sew Intertwined quilt.

So in all it's glory here she is!

Woven blocks

The only sewing I have been doing has been on the Sew Intertwined quilt along.   We have moved onto the 'woven' blocks.  I have chose to do the paper pieced version because I love the crisp corner and edges you get with the paper piecing.    

Here is my first woven block. 

 I'm working on more of them today, but will have to make a trip to the fabric store before starting the next ones after these since I some how didn't buy enough pink fabric.

Test Kitchen Tuesday

Hello!  I know I have been slacking off some on the blog, I have been having terrible headaches the past few weeks.  I think I have pin-pointed the cause/s, and have made a few diet changes, and am trying to avoid stress. I know, I know, good luck with that second one.

Today, I have an appetizer for you.  You could most certainly use it as a side dish though.  I personally would just have it for lunch, since I am the only one in my house that would even touch it.

Artichoke Dip

1 (14 oz.) can artichokes (water packed)
1 c. mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
1 c. grated Parmesan Cheese
1/2 Muenster cheese

Drain and chop artichokes.

Combine first 3 ingredients, top with Muenster cheese and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes.

Serve with crackers or tortilla/corn chips.

Additions you can make
Frozen spinach to this as well, make sure to thaw and drain well.
Mushrooms fresh or canned, if canned drain well before adding.
1-2 cloves minced garlic (garlic makes everything better right?)
Like spicy food, try adding some red pepper flakes or chopped Jalapenos



My son started back to school yesterday.  I can't believe he is in the first grade already.

Silly boy won't smile for the camera.

He came home in a good mood and said it was a lot of fun, but it was a long day and he was tired.

The girl and I passed some time playing Uno. While I worked on figuring out what color combos I needed to cut and sew for my Sew Intertwined quilt

I did get a little sewing in and got one corner block made.

I hope to get a few more blocks made today, but first we are heading to story time at the library.
